Activity Details:

This educational tour begins at the Waimangu Volcanic Valley Cafe where you will meet your guide and they will provide an informative talk outlining the geothermal phenomena associated with the Waimangu Volcanic Valley in relation to the Geography Achievement Standard 91932 1.1. This activity is designed for Level 1 Geography NZQA AS91932 to “Demonstrate understanding of the spatial distribution of a phenomenon and its impacts on place.” Leading the tour through the worlds youngest geothermal system, your guide will discuss the impacts the geothermal phenomenon has had at Waimangu Volcanic Valley and in the Rotorua area. Your Students will be able to judge how important or significant these geothermal impacts have been. The educational walk will lead you all to Lake Rotomahana, where the adventure part of the activity begins. Your guide will provide everyone with all necessary equipment, then run through safety and basic kayak instruction before you take the helm on the water. From here you will kayak a short distance before being lost in a spectacular geothermal display of steaming cliffs and colourful landscapes. From the kayaks your students will have a unique vantage point and perspective of the raw beauty and power these geysers create. This is an educational experience they will never forget!
